The psychopathology of “Beyond Belief” in obsessive compulsive and body dysmorphic disorder

I will explore the psychopathology of “Beyond Belief”  as it relates to the experience of  people with obsessive compulsive and body dysmorphic disorder. Understanding psychopathology and the implications for modification of beliefs and behaviours. I will cover with examples in OCD and BDD (a) The difference between thoughts, doubts, images and delusions, (b) the difference between beliefs and evaluations, (c) how imagery can be communicated, (d) the difference between beliefs and values and how this relates to over-valued ideation, (e) the role of meta-cognition and the difference between cognitive process and content, (f) how beliefs fit into a trans-diagnostic formulation and learning theory, (g) How dissociation can occur between a person's belief and the way it "feels" to that person, (h) The relevance of an alternative understanding (Theory B) for what is maintaining the problem, (i) The eternal question of whether beliefs, emotions and behaviours change first in CBT.
